Spread the word β Kansas City is the place to go for any wide receiver trying to land a long-term deal. Itβll likely come after a prove-it deal, though, thanks to Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
If you donβt believe me, just asking JuJu Smith-Schuster. While JuJu played a critical role in the Chiefs 2023 Super Bowl season, he didnβt arrive in Kansas City as much of a coveted commodity.
This offseason, Smith-Schuster is expected to receive a contract north of $13 million per season on a multiyear deal. He talked smack after winning the Super Bowl, in part because he drew a hold on Eagles defensive back James Bradberry. Itβs been a wonderful year for JuJu, all because he made the smart decision to sign in KC and play with Patrick Mahomes.
Chiefs rumors: Patrick Mahomes fields calls from interested wideouts
Mahomes is basically made of money at this point, and is happy to lend a helping hand in making others rich as well.
On Good Morning Football, James Palmer said the following, per Sports Illustrated:
ββ¦Receivers from around the league are interested in playing for Kansas City. As far as quarterback Patrick Mahomes is concerned, Palmer says that wideouts have been βcalling him this entire offseasonβ asking if they can come play with him on the Chiefs. While Palmer admits that he isnβt alluding to a signing directly, he continued by saying the possibility of an external addition is βout there on the table.β
Mahomes is fielding calls from wide receivers across the league, and itβs tough to blame them. In what could be a down market for wideouts as a whole, Kansas City is an attractive backup plan should any free agent fail to receive the long-term deal they covet.
KC needs to replace both Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman this offseason if they arenβt re-signed. The line is busy for now, but Mahomesβ customer service rep will be without you shortly.
