In a little over a month, the Miami Heat will play their first preseason game of the 2023–24 season, but their roster is still very much a question mark. Miami’s roster could come together quickly if they can convince the Portland Trail Blazers to trade Damian Lillard. That could take some doing since the Blazers don’t appear all that interested in what the Heat have to offer at the moment.
That could soon change, though, if Miami opts to trade Tyler Herro. Herro was one of their best players last season, but he seems highly unlikely to return next year with the team trying to scrounge up enough assets to trade for a star. Moving their best young player for expiring contracts and picks in the hopes of upgrading their roster enough to get over the hump with their current core is not without risk.
But with their best player, Jimmy Butler, turning 34 this month, the Heat know that they are in win-now mode and must make big moves to try and extend their title window. Assuming the Heat do move Herro, let’s take a look at the seven players Miami might replace him with by the trade deadline.
