The Golden State Warriors have acquired Jimmy Butler from the Miami Heat and have also agreed to a new two-year, $121 million extension with him. Butler is declining his 25-26 player option for his new contract.
The Warriors are trading out Andrew Wiggins, Dennis Schroder, Kyle Anderson, Lindy Waters III and a protected first round pick for Butler and Josh Richardson. The pick is top-10 protected in 2025 and 2026, then unprotected in 2027 if it doesn’t convey.
Schroder will be routed to the Utah Jazz. Additionally, PJ Tucker will be traded by the Jazz to the Heat.
Butler had been seeking a trade since December and preferred a deal to the Phoenix Suns, but the Warriors were one of the original teams on his list. Phoenix was unable to find a workable trade to send out Bradley Beal to acquire Butler after several weeks of trying with the Heat.
Golden State had also pursued a trade for Kevin Durant this week, but talks fell apart after it became clear that he did not want to leave the Suns for a reunion with his former team.
