Gregg Popovich Out Indefinitely, Mitch Johnson To Serve As Interim Head Coach Of Spurs

Gregg Popovich suffered a health issue before the San Antonio Spurs’ game on Saturday and will be away from the team for an indefinite period. Assistant coach Mitch Johnson is expected to serve as interim head coach for the Spurs in Popovich’s absence. Popovich will at least miss the Spurs’ upcoming games on Monday against the LA Clippers and Wednesday against the Houston Rockets.

Johnson played collegiately at Stanford before a professional career in the G League and in Europe.

Johnson first became an assistant coach with the Spurs in 2016 and moved to the front of the bench in 2020.
