AJ Griffin is giving serious consideration to stepping away from basketball, sources tell Shams Charania and Kelly Iko of The Athletic. The Houston Rockets acquired Griffin from the Atlanta Hawks this offseason. Preparations are underway for Griffin’s departure from the game.
Griffin, who was the 16th overall pick in the 2022 NBA draft out of Duke, is represented by agents Austin Brown, Steven Heumann and Max Saidman.
In 20 games last season with the Hawks, Griffin averaged 2.4 points in 8.5 minutes per game. Griffin appeared in 72 games as a rookie where he averaged 8.9 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 19.5 minutes.
