Why the Eagles can cover

Defensive tackle Jalen Carter made a statement as a rookie in 2023. Carter has an explosive get-off and has quick hands to shed blocks. The Georgia product owns a relentless motor and has the bend to bring down quarterbacks. Last season, Carter had 33 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, and six sacks.

The Eagles have decided to reshape the secondary this offseason, but still have Darius Slay as the nucleus. Slay still makes plays on the ball and uses his experience to his advantage. The six-time Pro Bowler had 57 tackles, 15 pass deflections, and two interceptions last season. Safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson is back in Philadelphia and provides relief on the backend. Gardner-Johnson isn’t afraid of contact and lines up all across the field as a pass-defender. In his five-year NFL career, the 26-year-old racked up 245 total tackles, 20 tackles for loss, and 12 interceptions.Β See who to back at SportsLine.

Why the Packers can cover

The Packers have contributors on all three levels on the defensive side of the ball. Defensive lineman Rashan Gary and Kenny Clark are the two anchors up front. Gary has constantly created pressure in the backfield and will bring down the quarterback. Last season, the Michigan product had 44 total tackles, seven tackles for loss, and nine sacks. Clark is another disruptive force along the interior. For the Packers in 2023, the UCLA product logged 44 tackles and a career-high 7.5 sacks.

Behind them is linebacker Quay Walker. The 2022 first-round pick uses his speed and football IQ to constantly find his way to the ball. Even though he missed three games last season, he still led the team in tackles. Over the last two seasons, Walker has finished with 239 total tackles, 10 pass breakups, four sacks, and three forced fumbles. He has recorded at least 118 tackles in consecutive seasons.Β See who to back at SportsLine.
