The 2024 Paris Olympic Games are officially coming to a close. Team USA co-leads the games in gold medals, along with China, with 40 and finishes with the most overall medals at 126.
The closing ceremonies took place at the Stade de France on Sunday. The event kicked off with all the athletes coming together, singing songs in various languages.
One of the most surprising and jaw dropping moments of the event was when actor Tom Cruise descended from the roof, into the crowd and held up a flag with the Olympic rings. As H.E.R. played guitar, Olympic gymnast Simone Biles passed the Olympic flag to Cruise to symbolize the Olympic handoff to the Los Angeles 2028 Games.Ā
Cruise took his motorcycle, with the Olympic flag on the back, on a plane and was shown skydiving into L.A., turning the Hollywood sign into the Olympic rings. The montage took us to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, which was one site of the games when the city last held the event in 1984.
American skateboarder Jagger Eaton skated with the Olympic flag, taking it to a beach in L.A. where the Red Hot Chili Peppers are performing.
Following the Red Hot Chili Peppers performance, Billie Eilish took a different stage to perform. We all know USA’s unofficial mascot Snoop Dogg wouldn’t miss an Olympic event. In a full Olympic ring outfit, he was later joined by Dr. Dre and the two California natives performed “The Next Episode.”
Alain Roche played the Hymn to Apollo on a piano suspended in the air, with opera singer Benjamin Bernheim.
The closing ceremonies including many performances, including french musicians Thomas Mars, AngĆØle, Cambodian rapper, Vannda, French duo Air and french band Phoenix.
The Paralympic Games begin on Aug. 28 and will conclude on Sept. 8.
