Chris Paul Waived By Warriors

The Golden State Warriors will waive Chris Paul as they were unable to find a trade using his $30 million salary for the 24-25 season. Paul will become an unrestricted free agent. The Warriors and Paul had moved the guarantee date back from Friday to Sunday.

The Warriors scoured the trade market with Paul’s contract and believed they were close to a deal for Paul George. Golden State acquired Paul from the Washington Wizards during the 2023 offseason as they salary dumped Jordan Poole.

In 58 games last season, Paul averaged 9.2 points, 3.9 rebounds and 6.8 assists in 26.4 minutes.ย 

Paul is expected to receive interest from the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers, San Antonio Spurs and Phoenix Suns. Paul has maintained his Bird rights throughout his career, opting into his contract in 2017 to orchestrate a trade from theClippers to the Houston Rockets. While on his next contract with the Rockets, he was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder and then again to the Suns. Paul is represented by Steven Heumannย and Ty Sullivan.

Marc Stein reports that the Spurs have “strong interest” in signing Paul.
