Lakers Willing To Give LeBron James No-Trade Clause

The Los Angeles Lakers are willing to give LeBron James whatever contract type he wants this offseason, including a no-trade clause, reports Shams Charania on the Pat McAfee Show.Β James can only receive a no-trade clause if he opts out because it cannot be added on as part of an extension. Bradley Beal is the only player in the NBA with a no-trade clause, which he utilized last offseason as leverage to get to the Phoenix Suns.

“It’s 51.4 million if he opts in,” said Charania. “If he opts out, I mean he can still dictate his contract. It’ll be a two-year deal. The Lakers have said it, I’ve reported it, they’re willing to offer whatever LeBron James wants.

“iIf he wants to opt-in and add two years and do a three-tear max $164 million deal, they’ll do that. If he wants to opt-out and get a new trade clause, they’ll do that. So LeBron James has a franchise that has been very upfront about the fact that they want to bring him back on any term, and that they have interest in drafting Bronny James.”

James could sign for up to $160 million over three seasons if he opts out with a no-trade clause, or he could opt-in at $51.4 million and then sign an extension worth $162 million over three season but without the no-trade. James would essentially be giving up $2 million in exchange for the no-trade clause.

James appeared in 71 games last season, averaging 25.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 8.3 assists and was an All-NBA Third Team selection for the third consecutive season.Β
