Saints' Chris Olave arrested on suspicion of reckless driving in Louisiana; team aware of incident

On Monday night, New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave was arrested on suspicious of reckless operation of a motor vehicle, per a spokesperson for the Kenner (Louisiana) Police Department. According to the Kenner Police, Olave was driving 70 mph in a 35 mph zone.

The arrest took place in the town — Kenner, Louisiana — where the team facility is located, a suburb of New Orleans. The 23-year-old cooperated with police following the stop and did not resist arrest, according to the report.Β 

Olave was booked at the Kenner jail and was to be released once paperwork was processed.Β Louisiana Law states that “Reckless operation of a vehicle is the operation of any motor vehicle, aircraft, vessel, or other means of conveyance in a criminally negligent or reckless manner.”

The punishment for reckless driving is as follows: “Whoever commits the crime of reckless operation of a vehicle shall be fined not more than two hundred dollars, or imprisoned for not more than ninety days, or both.”

If there is a second conviction of reckless driving “the offender shall be fined not less than twenty-five nor more than five hundred dollars, or imprisoned for not less than ten days nor more than six months, or both.”

The Saints did not provide a statement or comment on the arrest, but are aware of the what took place, per ESPN.

Since the Saints played on Thursday night in Week 7, there was no practice on Monday, but mandatory meetings did take place in the afternoon.

Chris’ brother Josh posted on social media, seemingly about the incident, saying, “Bro was on the way back to the crib from CVS… aint nun serious.”

Olave was drafted out of Ohio State by the Saints in 2022 with the No. 11 overall pick. This season, he is the team’s top receiver with 39 receptions for 471 yards and one touchdown.

The Saints next game is on Sunday at the Indianapolis Colts.
