The start of training camp is just days away, but the LA Clippersβ roster is still taking shape. LA made waves on Friday when they added a talented but controversial player to their roster. Former San Antonio Spurs guard Joshua Primo hasnβt played in the NBA in a year but will now join the Clippers on a two-way contract.
After some serious allegations forced the Spurs to waive him, it seemingly marked an unceremonious end to a short but promising NBA career. After all, Primo barely played more than a season with the Spurs after they unexpectedly took him 12th overall in the 2021 NBA Draft.
As the youngest player in the draft, the Spurs gambled on his potential when many mock drafts didnβt have him going in the first round or being selected at all. They even believed that he could develop into a potential centerpiece given his size at point guard, shooting ability, and work ethic. However, his alleged misconduct derailed his NBA career.
The Clippersβ latest signing is turning heads for all the wrong reasons.
Now, the Clippers have made the questionable decision to sign him, even after an investigation by the NBA concluded that he had done what he had been accused of. Is he worth the bad publicity that signing him to a contract, albeit a two-way contract, brings?
In theory, a good team that has very limited options to improve, taking a flyer on a recent lottery pick that didnβt fail due to on-the-court struggles makes sense. The problem is that even if he was a surefire home run signing, the Clippers or any other team shouldnβt even touch him given the results of the leagueβs investigation.
That is not even mentioning the message it sends to their female employees and female fans. Especially with other recent troubling incidents involving players, a coach, and women. Bad move by the Clippers.
