After several months of trade rumors, the Damian Lillard saga has finally ended, and it couldn’t have happened in a more surprising fashion.
The Miami Heat had been considered favorites to acquire Lillard for the majority of the time after his trade request; it seemed like it was just a matter of ironing out the details. It turns out the Heat were far from getting a deal done, as Miami simply didn’t want to pay the price it would take for Portland to accept a trade.
Even when talks had stalled between the Blazers and Heat, teams like the Raptors and Bulls were talked about as potential destinations for Lillard. In fact, entering the week, Toronto was considered the favorite to acquire the seven-time all-star.
There hadn’t been much serious conversation about the potential of a trade sending Lillard to Milwaukee, but out of nowhere, it happened, shocking the entire NBA world.
The details of the trade are as follows:
Bucks Get
Damian Lillard
Trail Blazers Get
Jrue Holiday
Deandre Ayton
Toumani Camara
2029 unprotected first-round pick, two first-round pick-swaps (via Milwaukee)
Suns Get
Jusuf Nurkic
Grayson Allen
Nassir Little
Keon Johnson
Here are grades for the Bucks, Blazers, and Suns following the blockbuster deal.
