5 Incredibly successful players you forgot played in the NBA G-League

The NBA’s G-League is a great product, as it allows players who might not see much time in the big leagues to get meaningful reps and hopefully earn a call-up at some point.

A handful of incredibly recognizable names in today’s NBA have passed through the G-League at one point or another. That said, let’s dive in and look at a few successful players who have gone through the G-League in their careers who you may have forgotten played there.

NBA G-League Alum – Jordan Clarkson

As a second-round pick of the Los Angeles Lakers in 2014-15, Jordan Clarkson was a flat-out steal. While his time in the G-League was brief, having appeared in just five outings, he certainly showed off some of the scoring potential that has helped him become one of the most productive reserves in the entire NBA today.

In five G-League appearances during his rookie season, Clarkson averaged 22.6 points, 7.8 assists, and five rebounds per game. The guard was electric, having shown off what he had in his arsenal. Given that he only suited up in five G-League games, the Lakers certainly understood they had an intriguing guard in town and called him up.

Since his G-League stint, Clarkson has been a reliable sixth man wherever he’s played, but he has really made a name for himself with the Utah Jazz. Having won the Sixth Man of the Year Award in 2020-21, Clarkson cemented his status as a household name. Given that he appeared in just five G-League games, it’s easy to forget that Clarkson is a G-League alum.
