Both the San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Timberwolves are up-and-coming NBA teams, and while they will be competing against each other for a spot in the playoffs, they could help each other out in a trade. The Spurs have plenty of good young players and draft picks that they can use to build around number-one overall pick Victor Wembanyama.
However, it could take a couple of seasons for them to improve enough internally to be a playoff team. But, with so many young players, they may consider a win-now trade to try and get back into title contention sooner.
Meanwhile, the Timberwolves made a splashy trade last summer, but that deal appears to have hurt them in both the short and long term. Fortunately, they have a rising superstar, and he could make a big enough leap next season to more than compensate.
Still, there is a mutually beneficial deal that can be made between San Antonio and Minnesota that could bolster the Spurs and allow the Wolves to retool around their new franchise player. Next, we’ll take a look at the trade.
