Throughout the long, storied history of the NBA, there have been many incredibly great, gifted players to grace the hardwood. Whether it’s Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, LeBron James, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kobe Bryant, Stephen Curry, Allen Iverson, and a plethora more
All these players have unique skill sets and personalities that make them who they are and have cultivated them into the icons they all became in the sport of basketball and the world. We’ve had goliaths such as Chamberlain and Shaquille O’Neal posterize helpless grown men who couldn’t do anything but beg for mercy on a bad night from them.
We’ve seen miniature guards dominate the game, such as Iverson with his jet-like speed on the open floor, who changed the game and culture forever with his brash style game on and off the court, from the crossover to cornrows, tattoos, chains, doo rags, earrings, arm sleeves, and more. He brought hip-hop to the game and took the punching bag from the media, so generations after him could forever be themselves on and off the floor.
The league is in great hands right now, from players in their prime, such as Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokic, to young stars such as Luka Doncic, Jayson Tatum, and Anthony Edwards. We even have this year’s No. 1 NBA Draft pick in the “French Mamba,” Victor Wembanyama (the most hyped prospect in NBA history outside of LeBron), making his NBA debut this October. He’s considered a unique talent at 7-foot-4 with guard skills.
As always, fans and GMs are always looking for the “Next Big Thing”. There’s another generational prospect on the horizon, though: 6-foot-8, 200-pound forward and Maine native Cooper Flagg.
