The NBA is packed with young talent and rising star power, preparing for the day when the likes of Steph Curry and LeBron James retire, and they will have to keep the show going. Jayson Tatum, Devin Booker, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, among others, are right there but many of the league’s most interesting talent is still under the age of 25.
So, let’s build an under-25 starting five.
NBA #1: Point Guard
The point guard position is in good hands. Ja Morant, Luka Doncic, Tyrese Haliburton, and Darius Garland are all still not 25 years old. And yet, all four have already been All-Stars. Garland and Haliburton have each made one All-Star game in 2022 and 2023 respectively so far and there is more to come. Both are still rising and developing to become even better facilitators and scorers in the future.
Morant is a few steps ahead of those two already, having made two All-Star teams and one All-NBA Second Team. He is one of the most athletic and mesmerizing scorers we have seen in a while but as we all know, he has plenty of off-court issues. Until that is fixed or one of the other young point guards in the game takes a massive step forward, the clear choice here is Luka Doncic.
The 2019 Rookie of the Year may not be the most athletic player in the NBA, but he is almost unstoppable as a scorer and dishes out beautiful passes. He can single-handedly carry a team to the playoffs if need be and has already been mentioned in the MVP conversation despite being only 24 years old. Since 2020, Doncic has never missed an All-Star game or a selection to the All-NBA First Team and if his career continues on the same trajectory, that might not change anytime soon.
Granted, Doncic still has some work to do on the defensive end and when it comes to complaining to the referees, but he is the most proven young point guard out there and may also just be the most talented one.
