After millions and millions of dollars were spent early on throughout 2023 NBA Free Agency, things have gone quiet as of late.
Rosters are starting to get full as teams gear up for training camp. Yet, there remain a handful of free agents out there who are still unsigned, looking to find a home before the season. Some can help teams out more than others, as everything is about fit and need at this point. With that said, let us look at five current free agents who can help teams out in 2023-24 if given a chance.
NBA free agents that could still help teams – Kelly Oubre Jr.
One of the biggest mysteries in the NBA right now is why Kelly Oubre Jr. remains unsigned after having the best year of his career. Does he want too much money? Is he looking for the right fit? Are teams really not interested in him? It really is eye-catching, but wherever the forward lands in the coming months before the season, he could help them out mightily.
As mentioned, Oubre is coming off the best season of his career, having averaged 20.3 points per game. Sure, he’s not always the most efficient scorer, but he could undeniably give any team in the league a nice boost in that regard. On top of that, he’s a strong defender, proving to be versatile at 6-foot-7, 203 lbs. Plenty of teams would surely love to have a 3-and-D wing with Oubre’s skill set.
The likeliest reason behind Oubre’s status as a free agent may involve his desire to earn a payday. That’s just speculation, but it makes the most sense. He likely wants to get a nice payday after the best year of his career, and he’s waiting for the right offer. Yet, he could very well have to settle for a cheaper deal if that perfect offer doesn’t come in soon enough with camp on the horizon.
Whichever teams get Oubre could end up getting a major steal this late in the off-season.
