The Portland Trail Blazers appeared to be on their way to the playoffs after a promising start to the season in which they went 15-10 before the wheels began to fall off. From New Year’s Day on, Portland went just 10-28 and missed the playoffs and even the play-in tournament. With superstar Damian Lillard nearing his mid-30s, the pressure is on the franchise to build a contender around him before his contract is up or he demands a trade.

Fortunately, they at least have a high lottery pick to work with, and there is even a chance that it ends up being the number one pick in this year’s draft. Even if it doesn’t, they could still include that pick as part of a win-now trade for a star in hopes of getting Lillard a worthy co-star.
