Let’s face it, the Mavericks’ season has been the complete opposite of what was expected. After Kyrie Irving’s trade in February, there was an air of excitement in Dallas, which finally seemed to be making a leap in quality with the addition of the eight-time All-Star.
Today, the situation is not at all as anticipated; on the contrary, the Texas franchise is currently eleventh in the West, with a record of 37-42, only three wins in their last ten games, and momentarily even out of the Play-In tournament.
In recent hours, there have even been rumors that the Mavs would bench Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving in these last few games due to the low chances of making it to the Play-In tournament. However, the former Real Madrid player categorically denied these rumors in a recent interview, saying:
Me sitting out against the Kings? As long as there is a chance to make it to the Play-In tournament, I will play
Luka Doncic
After all, Dallas is going through one of its toughest periods in recent years, but the race for the Play-In tournament is still on, and ultimately, OKC is only one game behind the Mavs, which means that to qualify, they would have to win at least two more games than the Thunder in these last few games of the Regular Season.
Certainly, given the circumstances, it seems almost impossible, but never say never when it comes to questioning the enormous talent of two stars like Luka Magic and Kyrie.
