NBA, NBPA Loosen Extension Rules By Allowing Up To 140 Percent Increase

The NBA and NBPA have agreed to increase the upper limits on contract extensions from a 120 percent increase on a current deal to 140 percent.

This could have an impact on players like Jaylen Brown and Domantas Sabonis who have dramatically outplayed the contracts they signed coming off their rookie deals.

Under existing rules, Brown would be limited to a four-year, $165 million extension with the Boston Celtics.

With the extension rules increased to 140%, however, Brown  would be able to reach his four-year maximum of $189 million as he is set to earn $31.8 million in the final season of his contract.
