The Eagles need to nail their first-round draft choice if they want to complete their mission to become Super Bowl champions next season.Β
Making it to the Super Bowl and winning the Super Bowl are distinctly different things. Thatβs why the Philadelphia Eaglesβ front office is determined to tweak the roster to win it all next year. Part of that plan will require Philadelphia to land an immediate starter with their first-round draft pick.
The challenge facing the Eagles is to land an impact player near the end of Day One of the 2023 NFL Draft. They currently own the No. 30 overall selection and the chances of Philadelphia moving up significantly are remote. Instead, expect Philadelphia to stand pat at 30 and catch the best prospect that falls to them.
Rebuilding the defensive line via a first-round draft choice would be the obvious solution. The team also has voids to fill at offensive guard and safety. It would be a mild surprise to see Philadelphia fail to address one of those roster needs in Round 1. The first player on this list might not excite the Eagles fan base, but it would help the team continue to dominate the trenches.
Eagles: 5 targets for the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft
5. OβCyrus Torrence, OG, Florida
If, as expected, Isaac Seumalo leaves the team via free agency, then landing a starting guard via the draft will be a top priority for the Philadelphia front office. Round 1 might be too early to fill that need, but Torrence could be the guy if the Eagles go for a guard at No. 30.
Torrence isnβt the most agile guard in this draft class, but his power at the point of attack will appeal to the Eaglesβ brain trust. What he lacks in potential he makes up for in current production. Torrence is a plug-and-play starter at the next level which makes him solid potential value for the Eagles at the end of Round 1.
