Cardinals trade candidate DeAndre Hopkins apparently wants to go back to the state of Texas but is eyeing the Cowboys instead of the Texans.
DeAndre Hopkins may be on the trade block, which should have every WR-needy team in the NFL sitting up and taking notice.
It doesnβt sound like Hopkins wants to land with just any franchise though. Word on the street is the Cowboys are a top destination on his end. Itβs just not clear how interested in the wide receiver Dallas might be.
Jane Slater of NFL Network reported as much on Twitter.
βThis is my evening tweet covering my bases. Iβve askedβ¦anything to DHop rumors now with more restructuring and Zeke. A source βNo DHop talk from us. Guess heβs telling everybody he wants to be a cowboyβ,β Slater tweeted
DeAndre Hopkins wants Dallas but do the Cowboys want him?
Thereβs a big gap between a player wanting to play for a team and actually making it happen.
Cowboys stars like Micah Parsons have openly recruited Hopkins. The linebacker tweeted, βitβs about that time,β while tagging the wide receiver with a series of eyeball emojis.
However, Hopkinsβ reply to Parsonβs tweet suggests itβs out of his hands. His shrug speaks volume when taken with Slaterβs tweet with a source saying, βno DHop talk from us.β
Hopkins can signal all he wants. Cowboys players can make it clear they want him. That doesnβt mean a trade will get done or even be pursued.
The fact that Hopkins is still under contract with Arizona is a major part of the problem. Heβs not a free agent who can get picked up with the right contract offer, like Odell Beckham Jr. Bringing him in would require making a deal with the Cardinals by giving up assets. There are other wide receiver trade avenues the Cowboys could pursue. Or they might not think itβs worth it to trade at all.
