Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith says Ohio State WR Jeremiah Smith will be ‘best receiver ever’

Ohio State wideout Jeremiah Smith has only played two games at the college level, but he is already drawing some high praise from NFL players. Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith believes the Buckeyes receiver has the potential to be the best of all-time.

Geno Smith might be a little biased — he is Jeremiah’s cousin — but he has seen enough to know Ohio State has a special player on its hands. Geno has seen some elite receivers up close at the NFL level, and he says Jeremiah will be right up there with them.

“I’ve seen a lot of great receivers, and I’ve had the chance to watch a lot of JJ since he was about 10 years old,” Geno Smith told CBS Sports. “He’s gonna be the best receiver ever. I really believe that.”

Jeremiah Smith exploded onto the scene with a tremendous college debut against Akron in Week 1. Smith caught six passes for 92 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and his older cousin was fired up the first time he found the end zone.

“When he caught that first touchdown, man, I jumped out of my seat,” Smith said. “The whole house was going crazy man. It was good to see that. I thought he had a heck of a game.”

In Week 2, Jeremiah stayed on a roll with 115 yards and a score on five catches against Western Michigan

Smith was a five-star recruit and the No. 1 overall player in the country in the 2024 signing class, according to the 247Sports ratings. In his 247 Sports scouting report, Smith was projected as a first-round pick with a comparison to Julio Jones.
